Generative Factor
14 years ago I was introduced to the Generative Factor by Bill Schwarz of The CEO Alliance. He showed me how to move from a reactive state to a generative one, both individually and corporately. Most people and organizations survive in a reactive state going from one fire to the next, to the point of complacency. At this place you are stifled and vision is lost. Life becomes centered around the struggle of the day.
Bill taught me another way. Water flows down the lay of the land. It will go the way its designed. You can dam it, try to control it, but eventually it follows the lay of the land, its structure. We are the same way. If we are not seeing our desired result, then it may be time to change the structure. Otherwise we experience insanity, doing the same thing and expecting a different result. It’s time to assess, design, align, build a new structure and implement a new way.
At age 62, I just made one of these structural changes in business. Our industry is in the midst of radical change. The choice was either survive or thrive. We assessed our business, designed a new structure, aligned our team and found a new partner to implement our strategy. Soon the transition will be complete, and we'll begin the path to a new season. Now we see our vision and opportunity to thrive.
Where are you today?
Is it time for you to make a radical change, become generative?
Now is the appointed time:
- To be the best parent, spouse, neighbor, employee, or boss
- Be the best at where you are
Go forth and lead the way.
Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
